Autobiografija Carla Gustava Junga pisana je pred sam kraj njegova života na nagovor američkog izdavača Kurta Wolffa (Pantheon Books) i na poticaj brojnih prijatelja i suradnika. U knjizi Jung iznosi uspomene na formativne događaje iz rane mladosti, školskih i studentskih dana, godina rada u psihijatrijskoj bolnici, opisuje svoj susret i suradnju s Freudom kao i razloge koji su doveli do raskida njihova prijateljstva, opisuje svoja putovanja u Afriku, Ameriku i Indiju, te napose izlaže svoje pozne misli u kojima iznosi svoja najdublja i najdalekosežnija uvjerenja. Dodatak knjizi čine Freudova pisma Jungu, Jungova pisma upućena supruzi Emmi, te knjižica Sedam propovijedi mrtvima koju je Jung sastavio zapisujući svoje vizije. Knjiga također sadrži i kratak Rječnik ključnih jungovskih pojmova. Ova je knjiga jedino mjesto među opsežnim Jungovim djelima gdje Jung govori o Bogu i o svom osobnom doživljaju Boga. Jungov koncept religije razlikovao se od tradicionalnog kršćanstva prije svega u odgovoru na problem zla.
