Riječ je o knjizi koja na temelju povijesnih izvora obrađuje razdoblje odmah nakon rata, o čemu Radelić piše u predgovoru: "Nakon što je Komunistička partija Jugoslavije završetkom Drugog svjetskog rata uspješno privela kraju oslobodilački i građanski rat, stvorivši sve temeljne pretpostavke za konačno i potpuno preuzimanje vlasti, suočila se s tri jaka protivnika: Hrvatskom seljačkom strankom, najvećom i najutjecajnijom hrvatskom političkom strankom, Katoličkom crkvom, koju je doživljavala kao mogući centar okupljanja svih oporbenih političkih snaga i kao najjačeg ideološkog protivnika, i gerilom koja je djelovala pod imenom križari. Obračunu komunista s HSS-om i Katoličkom crkvom u Hrvata povjesničari su posvetili nekoliko radova, ali se križarima uglavnom nisu bavili. Ova knjiga prvo je opsežnije historiografsko djelo o toj problematici. Prvo izdanje ove knjige rasprodano je i to je glavni razlog nastanka drugog izdanja, tek neznatno dopunjenog i uz nekoliko ispravaka, a nešto veće intervencije očituju se u izmjeni strukture teksta."
