About the Book

Delo se bavi crkvenom politikom prvog vladara tzv. Moravske Srbije, velikog kneza Stefana Lazara (1371–1389). Nakon propasti Srpskog carstva i smrti cara Stefana Uroša V (1371), knez Lazar, upravitelj oblasti sa jezgrom u Zapadnom Pomoravlju, teži da se postavi za legitimnog srpskog vladara i naslednika Nemanjića. S obzirom na to da je Srpska Crkva potvrđivala legitimitet srpskih vladara, knez Lazar posvećuje veliku pažnju rešavanju crkvenih problema – uz Lazarevo zalaganje se rešava crkveni spor sa Carigradom (1375), učestvovao je u postavljanju Jefrema za patrijarha (1375), a sledećeg patrijarha, Spiridona, postavio je samostalno (1379/80). Po postavljanju Spiridona za patrijarha knez Lazar je definitivno priznat kao jedini legitimni vladar Srbije od strane Srpske Crkve. Uz rešavanje crkvenih problema, Lazar ojačava svoj legitimitet i zadužbinarstvom. Izgleda da je knez Lazar sukob sa Turcima Osmanlijama osamdesetih godina XIV veka predstavljao kao sveti rat, kao borbu za odbranu hrišćanstva. Lazareva pogibija u boju protiv Turaka na Kosovu (1389) poslužiće njegovim naslednicima za kanonizaciju kneza Lazara i razvijanje njegovog svetačkog kulta.
